New Game: Capsule SE for the Nokia 9200

Capsule SE can now be bought via the Handango site. It is a port of a PPC game. It is a Tetris type game, but it has an added element and is slightly different. You must kill bugs by lining up same colour pills as they fall. The geame can be played as one player or two players can play on One Communicator head to head. The game costs $19.95.

From the Handango website:

Get rid of the bugs on the screen! This is done by positioning the capsules dropping from the top of the screen to the top or sides of the bugs. There are three different colored bugs, and the capsules also contain these three colors. When four or more of the same color are in line, the items containing these are removed. Remove all bugs to move to the next level. There are 25 levels. Includes a time challenge, normal and two player modes. Languages are English, German, French, Swedish and Finnish.

Some useful information on the game and some additional screenshots are available in the excellent aikon website here: http://www.aikon.ch/reviews/sw_review.php3?softwareid=139

The Nokia 7650 SDK has been available for sometime now as a free SDK from Nokia. If you get it working let me know!

The Nokia 7650 is phone an imaging that inspires strong emotional attachment. It is a device for sharing experiences through rich communication. It facilitates person-to-person or person-to-group multimedia communication based on self-created content. The imaging phone is exciting, fun, and easy to use.
The imaging functionalities of the Nokia 7650 include an integrated digital camera with image capture at 640x480 resolution, picture taking and sending, a photo album for storing pictures, and a large 176x208 pixel color display. MMS works in much the same way as SMS messages, but allows users to combine audio-, graphic-, text- and imaging content in one message. Once the user has selected a picture, written a text, and included an audio clip, the multimedia message can be sent directly to another multimedia messaging capable terminal as well as to the recipient's e-mail address. The advanced graphical user interface and 5-way navigation joystick help make this new device fast and easy to use.

The Nokia 7650 delivers a full range of functions for professional needs in the EGSM900/1800 environment. These include GPRS and HSCSD connections, WAP, wireless Bluetooth and infrared connectivity, e-mail (e-mail protocols: SMTP, POP3, IMAP4) and MIDP Java support. The hands-free speaker and voice dialing capability increase convenience when on the go.

The Nokia 7650 runs on Symbian OS, which is not only an operating system but also a full software and communications platform. It allows different manufacturer's devices to interoperate with each other, while still allowing a substantial differentiation of the products. As it is an open platform, virtually anybody can develop software for Symbian-powered devices. This means more applications to choose from, and a larger market for developers. Clearly defined APIs allow 3rd party developers to create applications that can be easily downloaded, installed, and run natively on the terminal Symbian OS. Written in C++, it is a fully object-oriented operating system, which contributes to its re-use, flexibility, and efficiency. The Symbian C++ APIs enable extremely efficient multi-tasking and memory management.

The Nokia 7650 and the Series 60 Platform

The Nokia 7650 is based on the Series 60 Platform. The Nokia 7650 includes not only the Series 60 Platform software, but also some product-specific features, such as a camera interface. The integrated camera is a differentiator that Nokia has chosen, but other licensees have the freedom to come up with their own innovations.

http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/1,6668,1_48_70,00.html

Recenetly it has been updated and the Camera API's are now available:

Camera API for Nokia 7650 enables 3rd party users to develop applications with "Nokia Series 60 SDK for Symbian OS", that can use the build-in camera on Nokia 7650.

VIM available for 9200

VIM, a mainstay of the text editing world has been ported to ER6 by Edmund Roland (author of Frodo). VIM is an improved version of the editor "vi", one of the standard text editors on UNIX systems. There are some bugs in the port and not all features are finished or included. The source code is available as this program is OpenSource.

From the website:
VIM for EPOC was ported to EPOC by Keith Walker. I 'ported' it from ER5 to ER6, it was quite easy. You can download VIM for ER6 here, it has been tested on a Nokia 9210 and compiled with the GnuPoc project. It still has some bugs but works quite well. Both source code and binaries are available, but unfortunately no .sis files (yet) because makesis does not work on my Linux machine. You are welcome to redistribute VIM as both source and binary, and also as .sis file.

You can download VIM for the 9210 @ http://edmund.roland.org/vim/index.html and find out more about VIM at http://www.vim.org
