Nokia 92x0 Review: Bulldozer

Bulldozer - from RedLynx
Review by Dazler

Prologue:

Bulldozer, didn't know quite what to expect from this game, besides that the screenshots looked good.
Bulldozer is from the same persons who brought you Skyflying (RedLynx).

(source: Handago)
In Bulldozer your skill in controlling extra heavy bulldozer is valued in one and two player games. Yes, that's right. The first game for the 9200 series where two players can compete against each other with one device!

First impressions:

Like usual I didn't bother to read tutorials and start directly gaming.
Working trough the installation was a breeze like usual, starting up and let the games begin ! (ok, one game then :p )
I find myself in a simple straight forward main menu with the lovely PLAY button, which brings me to a menu were I can set the number of cars and choose the game mode (One or Two player). And here I go, instinctually my fingers start pressing the arrowpad mmmz ... no movement .. lucky for me there are many other buttons on my keyboard and started pressing away :) I'm proud to say that I completed that first time with my Bulldozer only able to go backwards :)

The game:

The game resolves around the bulldozer (DOH), it's your job to get all the cars on to a transport which feeds the crusher. Now the Bulldozer uses gas, your gas is represented on the left side of the screen. Like in real life your Bulldozer will consume gas all the time even when not driving, when you start moving you'll use up more gas. The game is over when the gas is depleted. In other words, you'll have to be damn quick because even when you don't move the time is ticking and in the meanwhile you have to make shore you don't spend to much gas driving circles.

In next release I demand a gas station ;)))

Big bad bulldozer ... can't even push 3 cars ;p

Controls:

A bulldozer has a unique way of driving , because it runs on 2 tracks instead of wheels you can't just press forward/backward and left/right to drive.
A bulldozer can control each track separately, which gives him the ability to let his left track go forward and his right track backward, thus letting it spin.
So if you want to go right, you'll have to let the left track go forward and the right track backwards :)

The location of the controls seems a bit strange at first but prove themselves excellent in the multiplayer mode.

That car is history.

Action:

I must say I didn't quite see the fun in pushing cars on a crusher in the same world over and over again but It didn't took me long to realise this ain't a single player game, because the 2 player action is SO MUCH fun :) The single player mode is a good practice arena for the real 2 player stuff.
So what is the fuzz about? It's like this, 2 bulldozers, 2 gasmeters, 2 scorecounters, 2 crushers and only one car at a time!
Now every player has it's own crusher, score and gas; it's now your mission which you have to accept ;p to get as many cars on your crusher before cars or gas runs out. Be careful not to push into the wrong crusher because the other one gets the credit. When you get a car into your crusher you'll get a score added depending on your gas level, this score will keep decreasing through the game which makes it extra exiting, it could be possible that one person wins with just one car crushed while the other has 3 of them crushed (while low on gas).
The best part is that you can push your opponent :]

Oooh look how cute ... twins!

Place your bets pleace!

Features:

The first true 2 player game ever!

Technical:

Package size: 572K
Version:1.0
Price: $12.50
Installed size:636k
Memory when running:1334k

Judgement:

I found it hard to review this game because the game didn't quite appeal to me.
The lack of a plot for the single player got me down, maybe the title "Training" would be corrector.
Nonetheless I have to say the action packed 2 player mode of the game is a new level of gaming on the communicator. I just wonder if there is a market out there for such games. It was a bold move in my opinion to bring out a game totally focused on 2 player action but I know I'll be playing this game against my classmates!
