Links - follow these links to find out about Quartz. There is at the moment only limited infrmation available, but this is what I have found.
  • smaller.com - NEW article on how Palm could use EPOC (recommended).
  • the register - UPDATED article on this site listing some Reg articles about Quartz and ER6 in general
  • wapland - info on the next Psion, a bit old perhaps?
  • cebit 2000 - a page with details of epoc related happening from Hanover, note this is probably out of date and the direction been taken by Psion & Symbian may have changed.
  • infosync - a walkthrough of the new OS, quite a few screenshots, and a small amount of text.
  • Symbian - Symbian's site links closely with Symbian Dev net, but there is lots of relavent information here
  • Symbian Dev Net - this is the primary source of information, you can download the Quartz SDK and there lots of document some of which are listed below. These are mianly aimed at developers and are fairly technical. They may still be of interest however. RR = recommended Reading; T=technical, and VT= very technical [although this is just my opinion!]:
    • The Symbian Platform (RR) - top level over view, a brief overview of Quartz and Crystal
    • The Symbian Platform Version 6.0: Power and Innovation (T) - a slightly longer introduction to the ideas of Quartz and Crystal.
    • Symbian Platform Glossary (RR) - a glossary of some of the basic general technical terms involved.
    • Genric Technology (T) - information about the shared aspects of Crystal and Quartz (UKION).
    • Developing for the Symbian Platform (T) - a short document outlining the potential development options for ER6.
    • GT Detail (VT) - more detailed information about the generic technology in Quartz.
    • Desinging for Quartz (T, RR) - information for dvelopers about designing for Quartz. Covers the decision underlying the new GUI and talks about the author application seen in the Wrox Programming Book. Interesting screenshots included.
    • Migrating C++ Programs to Quartz (VT) - by the same author as above, again uses Wroz Book applications as examples.
    • Quartz Style Guide (T, RR) - programmers style guide for Quartz. Recommended reading if you want to learn how the new OS works and looks. Interesting Screenshots.
    • Memory Management in Quartz (VT) - infrormation for developers about memory management for both C++ and Java.
    • Key Handling in Quartz 6.0 (T, RR) - talks about the two input methods for Quartz (pen and buttons) and the implications for developers. The introduction is recommended reading to understand the new input system.
    • More Tech Papers (VT) - more technical paper relating to Quartz, either more general Java and C++ or GT.
