Introduction:
These screenshots are from the Nokia Java 9210 Emultaor. The device and OS is presumably subject to change, and some of the programs (notably the multimedia ones) are missing. Other manufcaturers may have a different interface. However they should give you a very good idea of what to expect.

First Impressions/ Notes about:
My first impression of the emulator were good. Very good. It was slow (my poor computer could barely cope). [TIP: wait for it to start and use the debug version if you have it installed yourslef]. It did take some getting use to, noticebly the absence of the touchscreen was confusing. However it is very easy to use (suprisingly so given the absence of a touch screen).

There are common themes throughout the emulator which I comment on in the screenshots. The toolbar has chnaged from ER5 to some extent in that hard buttons are used which line up with the text on the screen (right hand side). There is the 'doing toolbar'. On the left there is a description toolbar which contains information about the phone's signal, battery remianing, time, IR status and application name.

There is a difference in the way application are laid out. However this is the thing most likely to change with different implementations. However to give you the idea applications are arranged into groups vaguely reminiscent of Windows 3.1 and SIBO. For example 'Office' contains Word, Sheet, Powerpoint Viewer and File Manager. Messaging, and Contacts have their own buttons to start them and do not appear in any group. Extras is own group (and has the mosy apps in it). You should get an idea of this from the screenshots. The Open Files Dialog has also moved (it is now on the Menu).

Nokia are clearly promoting their device as a mobile communicator and play down to a certain extent sheet, word etc. Other manufaturers, especially Psion may put a different spin on this.
