Introduction
Mediaphones are Palm like devices. They are a combined PDA phoen device. You can learn all about them in this section of the site. Enjoy!

UIQ / Mediaphone Section

Welcome to the UIQ / Mediaphone section, here you can find information relating to Symbian devices using the UIQ interface (formerly the Mediaphone DFRD, and before than Quartz). Currently there are no Symbian devices using the UIQ interface. There are several prototpyes from Ericsson and Sanyo (boh shown public). The UIQ interface is for pen based PDA's and are similar in style to the Palm and PPC PDA's. The include the functions of the most powerful PDA and include a built in phone. There are suggestions that some will include built in GPS too.

The UIQ interface is a UI for the Symbian OS version 7.0. It was announced at the 3GSM conference in Cannes in Februrary 2002. You can learn more about it here (includes screenshots, and decription).

The following information is from the old mediaphone section: This is now mainly out of date. The mediaphone reference has been replaced by the UIQ interface. In the features section we list known hardware prototypes and several articles introducing Quartz and comprehensive screenshots from the emulator (despite being from the Quartz emulator they are almost identical to the UIQ interface). The software pages list software already announced, and the support section has FAQs and other question / answer related documents. And of course you can chat about and ask about anything in the All About ER6 Forums.

Rafe's back: explanation and more
Firstly I want to apologise to all the regular visitors to the site for the lack of updates recently. I've been taking my second year exams at university and although they did finish a week ago I have since been letting my hair down and generally having a good time. But now I can saftely say normal updates can resume (it take a while to catch up though...)

Borland previews tools for Symbian OS
Borland have announced the future availability of support for Symbian (specifically Series 60) in their development tools. As currently planned, the Borland C++ solution will enable developers to rapidly produce C++ applications that run on the Symbian OS. More tools can only be good as it will mean more developers.

Symbian.info Benelux User Meeting
Symbian.info are a Benelux Usergroup for Symbian based devices and they are holding a user meeting in Utrecht, The Netherlands. They are probably the best Symbian usergroup in the world, producing an excellent magasine (in Dutch sadly!), and being very freidnly. Although there are also plenty of English speakers (as well as Dutch and German).

Apologies and Explanations
As the webmaster of this site I would like to apologise for the slowness of recent updates. I have been very busy in the real world, and will remain so for a little while longer. There will be no updates by me in the next week. I like to thank everyone for their supportive comments and I hope normal paced service will resume soon!

Poll at linux.com
Not so much news, but interesting nontheless. There is a poll at http://linux.com for what is your primary OS, among the selection is symbian. Now as many of us have Symbian powered mobile phones (9210) it's safe to say that that is our primary OS. So pop by scroll down the page and give a vote to Symbian.
