F-Secure FileCrypto for Symbian OS is a file encryption application
that provides the strongest available protection against unwanted
data disclosure for devices using the Symbian operating system.
The encryption algorithm is Blowfish with 128 bit key-length. The
application can also be used to compress the encrypted files to
save memory space.

Automatic Protection at All times
F-Secure FileCrypto for Symbian OS automatically encrypts all files
before storing and decrypts the files again when they are opened,
without any need for user intervention. Confidential documents,
calendar data, email messages and other personal files are never
stored in a readable form, and the stored data remains safe even
if the battery dies or the device is accidentally shut down.
Support for External Memory Devices
Storing sensitive information on removable memory cards poses a
security issue as the cards can easily be removed and inserted into
other devices without any protection. With F-Secure FileCrypto for
Symbian OS, all confidential documents saved on the memory card
can also be encrypted. If the memory card is used for transferring
documents between two systems, the memory card or some of the subdirectories
on the card can be excluded from encryption so that both systems
can read the documents without problems.
Secure Access Control with Single Sign-on
F-Secure FileCrypto for Symbian OS provides secure two-level user
authentication for the file system and applications: a pass-phrase
and a timer-PIN combination. After entering a wrong PIN once, the
user is asked to give the correct pass-phrase.
File Compression to Save Memory Space
The application can also be used to compress the encrypted files
to optimize memory usage. Due to the compression functionality,
F-Secure FileCrypto for Symbian OS will in a typical installation
save more space than it takes. The average compression ratio for
a typical mixture of documents, such as email messages and Microsoft
Word documents is over 50%.
Totally Transparent in Use
F-Secure FileCrypto for Symbian OS is designed to be as transparent
to the user as possible. The files and directories to be encrypted
need to be defined usually only once, during the setup procedure.
After that, the encryption and decryption takes place on the background,
totally transparently.
